Thanksgiving: Learning the Art of Gratitude

Thanksgivings should be a daily activity that we do, for when we give thanks then we become content and when we are content, then we become grateful and when we are grateful, then we can freely give.

Hey guys,

Happy Thanksgiving! For those of you that don’t know anything about this holiday, Thanksgiving is a huge U.S holiday that centers on feasting and gathering together of family and friends. The holiday is perceived to have been started by religious pilgrims from England that settled in Massachusetts in 1620. In 1817, New York became the first of several states to officially adopt an annual Thanksgiving holiday;

The main food eaten on Thanksgiving is turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Since America is very diverse country, a lot of families also include some of their traditional food. Some activities common on Thanksgiving Day include food drives and free dinners for those in need; parades are also a major source of attraction on this day with New York City’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade being the largest and most famous since 1924, attracting 2-3 million spectators. “It typically features marching bands, performers, elaborate floats conveying various celebrities and giant balloons shaped like cartoon characters” (History Channel).

Someone told me this yesterday and I thought it was so touching and true, I couldn't have said it better. “Thanksgiving is a great opportunity to pause and take stock of all the things we have in our life to be grateful for. Though each of us has our share of daily trials and tribulations, we each have an abundance of family, friends, and material things, to be thankful for. Please also take a moment to think of those who have less, those who have a more difficult time getting through the day and through their lives. Think especially of what you can do to help improve their lives in some small or grand way” (Andy Segal).

While you are busy feasting today, do take a moment to thank God for everything he has done for you, even the things you deem to be so small because they can be big things if you don’t have them. And do think of what you can do to help those that are less fortunate than you.

Happy Thanksgiving and stay blessed!
