Staying Fit and Healthy During Quarantine

When we first found out that we would no longer be going into the office and majority of the businesses were shutting down, I think most people’s initial reaction was – this is great, I don’t have to wake up early. We did not know what to do with ourselves, so we spent a lot of time cooking and eating all kinds of food – it was all out of sheer boredom.

As days quickly turned into weeks, we realized that we were slowly turning into little piglets. I signed up for a new gym at the beginning of the year, which operated for 24 hours. The one I went to prior was only open from 7am to 9pm and those hours were not working out for me. There are so many free workout videos that you can access on YouTube but one of the best one that I’ve come across is by Heather Robertson. I’ve also been hearing a lot of buzz about Chloe Ting. I’ve only tried one of her workouts and it was good. I think she has so many programs that you can subscribe to free.

Heather has a free 12-week program that has easy to follow steps of each routine. It’s so good, it feels like you have an instructor right in your own home. The workouts start out on the easier side and intensify as the weeks go by. Her workouts may not be for everyone, so you have to be able to find something that you like and that works for your fitness level. Working out at home may not be ideal for everyone, so if you prefer to go running outside, walking, riding a bike, or dancing - do whatever tickles your fancy. The whole point is to keep your body active.

Everyone knows staying fit is not just about working out but incorporating healthy eating habits. If you are working out all the time but eating junk eat, that is just pointless, and you won’t see the results that you are looking for. I have to admit though, dieting has never been my thing. There’s just nothing appealing to me about eating salads everyday LOL. You don’t have to be on a diet to eat healthy though.

One of my most healthy eating habits is eating home cooked meals instead of ordering out. Eating at home cuts out a lot of the processed food. Instead of salads, I prefer mixing together a variety of veggies like broccoli (my kids will eat broccoli over anything else on their plate), carrots and green beans. Instead of frying my meats, I prefer to season them and just throw them in the oven. It’s more healthier that way.

While I was in Mexico, I discovered a super-power green smoothie that everyone in my household absolutely loves. It’s made by mixing together an apple, cucumber, celery, cactus, spinach, fresh ginger and some orange juice. I love it because the kids get their share of fruits and veggies in one serving. Zaria will drink a whole glass by herself if you let her.
