Day 2 - Water Island- St Thomas

IMG_5766 On the second day of our trip, we were up early after having an early night the day before. We took some time to shoot the outfit of the day and then proceeded to hop on a safari for $1, heading to Red Hook. This is a popular touristic town on the east end of the island featuring red-tiled roof buildings. It also overlooks the island of St John. The trip was less than five minutes from our villas.

We stopped in one of the clothing store to inquire about places to visit and eat in Red Hook. The store clerk was kind enough to recommend several places. He suggested we head out to Water Island and when we inquired about what was there to do he said ‘absolutely nothing!” :-). We had breakfast at one of the restaurants he recommended, Fish Tail. Their food was not that great. But then again, we weren't impressed by the food in St Thomas, maybe it was just the restaurants we visited.

We decided to take a trip down to Water Island but first we roamed the streets of Charlotte Amalie. This is the capital city of St Thomas and also the largest city in The U.S.V.I. It is one of the busiest ports of call for cruise hips in the Caribbean so it is not uncommon to see several ships in the harbor. Since this is a tourist town, be prepared to pay some hefty tourist prices along the long strips of stores.

We had to take a cab to catch the ferry to Water Island, which would take about 5-10 minutes. We opted instead to walk about half an hour so we could stop and take pictures when needed. The ferry only takes about 12 minutes to Water Island and costs $10 round trip (be sure to check out the ferry schedule so you do not miss the last one).

When we got off the ferry, we were amazed at the beautiful views and it wasn't even our final destination. Below is the view when you first embark from the ferry:

Upon arrival at Water Island, we were given a complimentary ride to the beach, which was five minutes away. The driver was kind enough to stop at the top of the hill so we could get out and take the perfect shots of the beach.

Water Island is the perfect place to go to when you are looking for serenity; it's a very relaxing and quiet beach with only a handful of people. Like the store clerk said, there's absolutely nothing to do and yet the view is worth spending a few hours there. Sometimes it's good to just drop everything you are doing and have a nice quiet time. Oh, and they do have a local vendor selling food and drinks so you'll definitely be able to grab something to eat.

The water at this  beach is crystal clear and quite warm; and the sand is soft.  You also get the option to lounge beneath the shade of the palm trees or the colorful beach chairs below that are readily available for use.

One of the most beautiful things we witnessed on Water Island just before we left, was the sunset - it was so breath-taking; these pictures are not filtered! IMG_5767 IMG_5771

We had a great time on this beautiful small island! Day two was a success and it was time to head back to our villa. Stay tuned for day three (my favorite day of the entire trip!).
