3 Things I Learnt From the Daily Blogging Challenge
I am beyond excited to announce that today is officially THE LAST DAY of my blogging challenge! Hip hip hooray!! I know some of you are sad but don’t be, I’m going to continue posting, but instead of 5 days a week, I might do twice a week (still figuring it out). Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right,” in other words, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7).
I just want to thank you guys for reading my posts during this time. What’s the point in writing when no one is reading. right? I am so proud of myself for completing this challenge (pats self on the back). It was trying in so many ways and I wanted to end this challenge with three main things that I learnt during the month of July: I can wake up early every day, I can plan my entire activities for a whole month, and I can do whatever I commit to EVEN when I don’t feel like it.
1.) Waking up early
I’m not a morning person, I’ve never been. I’ve always hated waking up early until I gave myself a reason to…God! My relationship with God was what made me consistently wake up at 5:30am everyday (on a bad day I wake up at 6 lol). Not just that, but starting my day early helped me finish that book that I’ve been trying to read for almost a year. Now my morning routine comprises of the following: doing devotion, reading a book, and working out before I start work at 8:30am.
2.) Planning, planning, planning
Most times, I wouldn’t write a blog post because I had nothing to write about. This challenge helped me to strategically plan out my topics by breaking them up into themes. Knowing the theme I’d be covering on a specific day of the week helped me tremendously because I didn’t have to wing it. There were several instances where topics came up and I wrote about something that was not scheduled for that day because God was interrupting my plans 😊.
The past few months, Edwina and I have been shooting almost every weekend. Having all my looks ready ahead of time definitely helped with this challenge, otherwise I’d have no looks to post.
3.) You can do whatever you commit to
There were many days when I didn’t feel like blogging, but I had to because I made a commitment to myself. Having an accountability partner helped too. I was doing the challenge with my best friend, Edwina. You can check out her posts here. If you enjoy reading my posts, you will love hers too!
At first, I thought the challenge would be one blog post for the week because that would have been a challenge too considering I was doing one blog post a month. Then I found out from Mattie James (she’s the one in charge of the Facebook group for bloggers) that it’s one blog post a day. I was like NO WAY! I didn’t know how I was going to do it but here we are. Glory to God!
Where do we go from here? I have to admit, doing this challenge has taken up so much of my time that I’ve had to place several projects on the back burner. I’m working on putting together a calendar for August where I can allocate time for the blog, my part time job, Maliny Décor and the WM Hope Foundation, outside of my full time job. Do you guys even know what I do? LOL. I work as a Marketing Manager in the tech industry (industry dominated by old white males). For someone who loves fashion, I spend a lot of time writing tech stuff, organizing tech events, managing campaigns, writing case studies and email templates for our sales team. The contrast of it all is quite hilarious.
About my outfit:
On this rainy day, I wanted to post something with pop of color and what better way to do that than with a pop of blue and yellow? Both pants and top are from Zara. I had three pairs of shoes that I could possibly pair with the outfit and I coudn’t decide which one to wear so I wore all three :-). I have hot pink heels from Zara, purple pumps from Steven Madden and turquoise with hints of gold from PrivelegedShoes. Which one is your favorite?
Thank you guys again for keeping up with me during this challenge. See you on Monday (or not!).
