Killing Your Joy With Comparison

The fastest way to kill something special is to compare it.
— Pastor Craig Groeschel

The mind is a powerful tool. When used in the right way, it has the power to help you achieve the extraordinary. If used incorrectly, it has the power to debilitate you. Consider this scenario: you just purchased a used corolla and paid cash for it. You are feeling really happy about owning a car and not going into a debt to own it. One day, you run into an old friend at a store and you see that they are driving a brand-new BMW. Suddenly, you start feeling crappy about your used corolla that you worked so hard to purchase.

Eyes are deceitful! What you may not know is this: the person driving the brand-new BMW makes less money than you, more than half their paycheck goes to paying for that brand-new car, and they have zero savings. And here you are, feeling bad about your life over material things that don’t matter. On the other hand, that friend may really have the money to pay for that brand-new BMW, but that shouldn’t leave you feeling bad about your own life and God has given you.

Comparison will instantly kill your joy and gratefulness. It has a way of twisting your mind, so instead of focusing on every single thing that God has done for you, you start to magnify all the things that you do not have, and the result is discontent. We are all guilty of this. Comparison will keep you from being happy for others when they achieve their dreams.

How do you kill the spirit of comparison? By fixing your eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of your faith and running with perseverance the race marked out for you (Hebrews 12:1-3). If we have full confidence that God has a plan for our lives - plans to prosper us and not harm us, plans to give us a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11); and we know without a shadow of doubt that the steps of the righteous are ordered by The Lord (Psalm 27:23), we will not be discouraged when we see others succeed. Instead, we will thank God for their journey, knowing full well that God has his own plans for our lives.

I don’t know if you guys realize this but when I write these posts, it’s a way for me to encourage you but it’s also my way of reminding myself of these truths because I tend to forget. I’m keeping these posts as a diary for my kids to read when they get older.

About this outfit:

P.S. This is a sponsored post but all opinions expressed are my own!

This camel lounge-wear set with a cropped top is from Femme Luxe Finery. I was actually surprised at how soft the fabric is. It is very comfy and that’s what exactly what you should expect from lounge-wear. This set comes in a variety of colors like skyblue, gray, olive green, etc. I opted for the camel color and I really liked how it looked with the leopard print heels. In true Malita fashion, I just couldn’t help wearing this set with a pair of heels. One day, I will shock you guys and actually wear some sneakers. Yes, one day in the far future!

There are so many varieties of lounge-wear offered by Femme Luxe and you can check them out here. As we are approaching cooler and crispier weather in September, stocking up on some comfy long sleeved clothes will be ideal.

Thank you for stopping by! See you next time.
