Why I Quit Blogging Many Times

7 years ago, I officially launched my blog! Why? I wanted an outlet where I could just share my love for fashion, travel and writing. It was like a diary of some sort. Looking back now, I wish I had been more intentional about being consistent because my journey of blogging has been up and down.

A lot of people start blogging because they think it’s a quick way to earn extra money or they are looking to get free stuff from brands. Don’t get me wrong, all those are great things but if that is the main reason you start blogging, then you will soon realize that it’s not all fun and games but there’s a lot of hard work, time and money that goes into it.

In an overly saturated market, competition is high, growing your following is super slow and algorithms of many social media platforms are always changing and making it very hard for people to see your content, unless you are boosting your posts with paid ads. All these reasons can be discouraging.

I quit blogging so many times before for all the reasons stated above but mainly because I lost or didn’t have a clear purpose of why I was doing it. It was a lot of work and for what? As I write this, I just found out that the girls poured water on top of the headboard and they have play-doh all over the bed LOL. With so many responsibilities, it’s easy to get burnt out. Most people have no idea what goes into blogging, they just see the finished product. If you want to learn more, check out Edwina’s post on what goes into blogging here.

In a space where everyone is a fashion blogger, what would differentiate me from my peers?

One day, I had a conversation with God. Yes, me and God have our conversations about everything. I was on the verge of shutting down my site, I had no passion or motivation to take pictures or write any inspirational posts. I felt like I just had absolutely nothing to share.

Don’t you like it when God responds back to your questions with more questions such: if I called you to minister to one person through your work, would you still do it? If you never become social media famous, never got paid for doing the work, never got any free stuff from brands, would you still do it?

In that moment, I realized that my blog was not just about fashion and travel and all the stuff that I thought it would be. It turned out into something more than that, it became my ministry. The more I wrote, the more feedback I got from people about how whatever I was writing about was encouraging them. If my work made a difference in one person’s life, then yes, I would continue to do the work with no applause if it’s what God called me to.

So, after many times of quitting, God will not let me quit because the hobbies that he gave me were meant to glorify him. Yes, I will take a thankless job, I’ll do the work even when there is no applause, even when I don’t feel like doing it.

About My Outfit:

When it comes to rompers, I’m a huge fan of rompers with a maxi overlay. There’s just something about the long train that is so cute and girly, I just want to twirl. This romper is from Mandees and the sandals are Steve Madden.
