What You Need to Know If Traveling to These Islands During COVID-19

We are all sick and tired of being home! As most countries are slowly starting to ease up on travel restrictions, you may be tempted to make a trip to one of the islands. Here’s quick post on what you should expect if you are looking to travel to the following islands:

1.) Bahamas

Bahamas opened up its borders to international travel on July 1st. Prior to traveling the island, you need to submit a health visa application that takes up to 72 hours to approve. You also have to submit a covid-19 test with negative results taken within 10 days prior to departure. The most important note is a 14-day quarantine required upon arrival. While you are on the island, you are required to wear a mask at ALL times where they are required or face $200 fine or one-month imprisonment. There’s also a curfew between 10pm and 5am. For more information, visit the consulate here.

2.)  Mexico

Traveling to Mexico is a bit tricky at the moment. While land crossings between the US and Mexico remain closed until August, you can still travel there by plane. However, many states are only allowing essential workers or operating at reduced capacity. Some local authorities also have their own restrictions that they are imposing, so you have to do your due diligence. Tourists may also be subject to temperature checks and other health screenings. You can get more information from the US Embassy and Consulates in Mexico.

3.) Puerto Rico

If you are looking to travel to Puerto Rico, you need to show proof of a negative covid-19 test 72 hours prior to arrival. If the results are pending or positive, you have to quarantine for 14 days. Here are a few things you should know and consider if it’s even worth traveling to Puerto Rico: public beaches and natural reserves are only open to those doing solo sport or exercise training from 5:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m, hotel pool facilities are currently closed, attractions and tours, across the Island, are closed, and museums remain open at a 50% capacity.
